The verdict is in on which platform does more for short-form creators, and it went to Facebook Pro, the side that never explained itself. In this opinion market, where traders put money behind their views, Facebook Pro finished at 60% consensus to 40% for YouTube Shorts. Every written thesis in the market backed YouTube. In my line of work, we call that a quiet bid.
- Facebook Pro60%
- YouTube Shorts40%
This confirms the early lead this outlet spotted when we reported that Facebook Pro had edged ahead while every argument backed YouTube. What's new is that the gap held until the close. When the chart starts (Nov 3), Facebook Pro stood at 50% and YouTube Shorts at 50%. Since then Facebook Pro has ranged from 50% to 60%. It wobbled and never gave up the lead, like a blue-chip stock that refuses to comment on its earnings.
- Facebook Pro 59.4%
- YouTube Shorts 40.6%
In fairness, the vote was small and quick: 52 unique traders put $69,750 behind their opinions, and trading opened less than a day before the result. Still, the YouTube camp did all the talking. "The data whispers and the crowd shouts, im listening to the whisper," wrote hodl queen 👑. Nate went with the classic: "this is obvious to anyone whos done the homework, most havent." Being sure you're right and getting paid for it turned out to be two separate things.
This outlet earlier reported that YouTube beat TikTok in a different market. Here, though, YouTube Shorts lost to Facebook Pro, which had no written thesis backing it. Apparently a winning position doesn't come with a memo.
My view, and it's only a view: the silent majority on Facebook Pro looks a lot like creators who have already cashed a payout cheque and see no reason to write a thesis about it. The YouTube side made the arguments and the Facebook side kept the score. A larger rematch, or a Facebook backer finally putting a case into words, could change the picture. Until then, you can join the market and add your own reasons, or keep quiet like the winners did.
