Draw the curtains and light the cheap candle, darlings, because the cards have turned and they show a bee. The crowd has picked the dating app it trusts with forever: Bumble. Not the app that swore it was made for marriage, not the swipe machine that started it all, but the yellow hive. The Lovers card has seldom looked so much like a corporate logo.

Now for the earthly facts, which the spirits hate. Match Group's own annual filing describes Hinge as aimed at people with a higher level of intent to enter a relationship, with the product built to reinforce that. According to Wikipedia, Hinge launched as a mobile app in 2013 as a less superficial alternative to swipe apps like Tinder. Tinder is still enormous, with tens of millions of monthly users in 2025, only a small share of them paying. Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid and Match.com all sit inside the Match Group family.

The romance has worn thin, though. NPR reported a commentator arguing that Hinge's free version hides the most desirable matches behind a paywall to push people toward premium. The same reporting traces a restless migration: as each app got worse, users left Tinder for Bumble and later moved on to Hinge. Lonely hearts don't stay loyal for long.

Which is why the crowd's verdict on Morfi's opinion markets feels like a reading done backwards. Bumble leads with 52% consensus and Hinge follows on 13%, with 3 other sides trailing further back in the smoke. That comes from 11 traders who have put $32,832 behind their convictions. It sounds grand until you remember this market opened less than a day ago. The tea leaves are still warm.

The bee wears the crown and the rose wilts. The orb is not sentimental.

My own reading, which is opinion and smells of incense: I think the crowd is crowning Bumble less out of love than out of exhaustion. Hinge promised to be the app you'd delete once you found someone, then reportedly started charging for the people you'd want to find. A paywall in front of your soulmate is bad energy. Still, if the migrations NPR describes repeat, today's queen bee is tomorrow's abandoned hive. The heart is fickle and the app store even more so.

What to watch for: whether Hinge's intent-first reputation pulls it back as more traders arrive, and whether 3 other sides can catch up from behind the veil. The orb clouds over with every new trade, so come and stir it yourself. Join the market on Morfi and put your money where your heart is.
