Knives down, aprons on, the judges' table is trembling. One denim ad, one pun, and a crowd split into two kitchens: is Sydney Sweeney's jeans ad "Sexy" or "Sexist"? The tasting is in, and one side has come out of the oven with a golden crust.

First, the ingredients. According to the Sydney Sweeney Wikipedia entry, she starred in American Eagle Outfitters' July 2025 campaign "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans," which the Hollywood Reporter called a "media firestorm." Some social media users, and eventually some academics, claimed the pun on "jeans" and "genes," paired with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman, promoted eugenics and white supremacy. Supporters answered by decrying wokeness and cancel culture.

Even the food critics couldn't agree on the seasoning. The same page says The New York Times, The Independent and Deadline described the row as largely manufactured by conservatives, while The Atlantic and the Los Angeles Times found the reactions from both sides exaggerated. That is a lot of salt thrown from every direction.

Now the Morfi scorecard. On this opinion market, "Sexy" leads with 60% consensus, while "Sexist" trails at 40%. Remember, that is the crowd's conviction level, not a headcount. 57 unique traders have put $36,906 behind their opinions, and the pot has been on the heat for less than a day. This is an early tasting, not a final plating.

My take, and this is pure opinion: the crowd has gone for the dish that is simple, bright and easy to swallow, and I get it. But the real flavor of this fight was never the denim. It was a pun that people tasted differently depending on which kitchen they trained in. The critics who called it manufactured outrage and the critics who called both sides overcooked each have a point. Pause. Sizzle. Nobody here is serving a clean plate.

What to watch next: does "Sexist" fight back with a second-day comeback, or does "Sexy" keep its lead as more traders arrive? Our colleague Coco Velvet covered the opening bell in her first look at the jeans brawl. This data comes from opinion markets on Morfi, where real people back their views with money.
