Markets occasionally deliver a result that contradicts the balance sheet, and this is one of them. Asked which sportswear brand is better right now, on style, quality, performance and value, the crowd has put Adidas ahead of Nike. The larger company has been informed. It has not yet commented, mostly because it is busy.
The busyness is real. According to Wikipedia's Nike entry, the Oregon company is the world's largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel, with revenue in excess of US$46 billion in fiscal year 2022. The same page says that in April 2026 it announced it would cut approximately 1,400 workers, about 2% of its workforce, mostly in technology, as part of a turnaround plan led by CEO Elliott Hill. A turnaround plan is what a company has when it would like you to stop saying the other word.
Adidas is the second largest in the world, per its own Wikipedia entry, and reported 2024 revenue of €23 billion. It became the number two in part by agreeing in 2005 to buy Reebok for $3.8 billion, a deal completed with a partnership in January 2006. Two decades of silver medals, then, and a crowd that may be tired of watching the gold one.

Here is the Morfi count. Adidas sits at 60% consensus, Nike at 40%, across 30 traders who put $37,803 behind their opinions. That is conviction, not a headcount, and the market opened less than a day ago, so this is a morning reading rather than a closing bell. Still, the crowd was asked which brand is better, not which is bigger, and it appears to understand the difference better than most analysts.
My view, which is opinion and not a filing: size is a fact about the past, and preference is a fact about now. Nike has the revenue, the reach and the restructuring memo. Adidas has the underdog's advantage of being forgiven for things a market leader never is. If I had to price it, I would call Nike's lead in scale fully priced in and Adidas's lead in affection oversold, which is a polite way of saying I would not bet against the crowd and would not bet the house on it either.
What to watch next: whether Nike's turnaround turns anyone's head, and whether the early Adidas lead survives once more traders arrive with strong feelings about their trainers. The data comes from opinion markets on Morfi, where people back their views with money. If you think the crowd has mispriced the Swoosh, join the market and say so.
