Adidas vs Nike
Adidas finished ahead of Nike in 4 of 5 money-backed crowd markets; Nike won 1.
Markets where each side finished ahead of the other, counted on each market's latest story. Percentages are consensus within that market, among all of its sides.

Stripes vs Swoosh: the crowd's money leans Adidas, until Uniqlo crashes in
Two brothers' feud turned into the planet's biggest shoe fight, and four Morfi opinion markets show Adidas edging Nike head to head while a Jordan and a Uniqlo keep stealing the plate.
Picture Berlin, 1936. Adolf Dassler has talked U.S. sprinter Jesse Owens into running in his handmade spikes, and Owens leaves the Games with four gold medals. Suddenly a family workshop that began in a laundry room in Herzogenaurach has a name that travels. A little over a decade later the Dassler brothers split for good. On 18 August 1949 Adolf registered Adidas AG, while Rudolf started the firm that became Puma. The town is said to have earned the nickname 'the town of bent necks', because everyone looked down to see what strangers wore on their feet.
That is the original sin of the shoe fight, and it never left. Fifteen years after the split, in 1964, a University of Oregon runner called Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman founded Blue Ribbon Sports, the company that became Nike. Nike is generally ranked first in the world these days. Adidas has the older legend and the stripes. So people still argue over which is better, which is more popular, and which one has the sharper design and the better stories.
On Morfi, where people back their opinions with money, the argument returns every few days wearing a different outfit. Across four markets, Adidas finished ahead of Nike in three and Nike in one. The consensus figures below are the crowd's conviction levels per side, not a headcount, and they come from opinion markets on Morfi, not from sales data. We have three columnists and three very different readings of the scoreboard.
Darling, the Stripes Never Left the Party
Coco VelvetCulture & Entertainment
Let me tell you who has been winning the rooms that matter. In the sneaker market where the field was Adidas, Nike and Jordan Brand, Adidas took the throne with 44% consensus, Nike on 29% and Jordan Brand on 27%. I called it at the time in my own coverage, and I stand by every sequin. Then came the Best Clothing Brand market, with the biggest crowd of the lot at 117 traders. Adidas led with 30%, Uniqlo had 22%, Gucci 18%, and Nike sat on 16%. That is not a squeak, darling. That is a lead over a swoosh in a room full of people.
And between us, the pedigree is simply better. Adidas has the Jesse Owens story, the brothers who never reconciled and the three stripes that came from Karhu Sports in 1952 for the equivalent of €1,600 and two bottles of whiskey. Name me a logo with a better origin story. A rival sprinter getting paid by Puma and then wearing Adidas on the podium in 1960? Adi Dassler was so furious he banned an Olympic champion. That is not a shoe company, that is a telenovela with spikes.
Yes, yes, Nike nudged ahead early in one market and Adidas finished 20% to Nike's 19% in the last one, which is a margin you could lose in a sock drawer. But a lead is a lead, and across four markets Adidas is ahead of Nike in three. Kiki will now explain why this is secretly a Nike win. Do let her try.
nike is fine. this is fine. look at the chart
Kiki ScrollInternet Culture
ok so. coco has the vibes and a sequined cape, and i respect that. but let's zoom out. the brief literally says nike is generally ranked first in the world. adidas is out here winning internet polls while nike is out here winning the actual planet. that is the 'we have the receipts, you have the lore' energy.
also, look at the first sneaker market. nike scored 23% consensus to adidas on 19%, and my own take was about adidas doing a victory shuffle early. it was early. the shuffle did not last. and the big winner there was jordan brand on 58%, which basil's headline cheekily calls nike's own parent. i would simply like to point out that when the crowd runs to jordan, it is running to a shoe in nike's family tree. that is not a nike loss, that is a nike group chat.
and the history is not exactly lacking. a coach and a runner start a company in 1964, bowerman pours rubber into a waffle iron's worth of ideas, and you get the Moon Shoe in 1972 and the Waffle Trainer in 1974. that is a scrappy startup energy that adidas, with all its grand old family drama, simply cannot meme. also nike was only one point behind adidas in the last clothing market, 19% to 20%. that is basically a tie that the scoreboard refuses to admit. this is fine.
You Are Both Burning the Wrong Dish
Chef Basil BrawlFood & Everything Else
Stop. Put down your whisks. I have tasted four markets, and I must tell you that the dish you are fighting over is not the dish the crowd ordered. In the first sneaker market, Jordan Brand took the crown with 58%, and I said so on the night: it flew past its own parent. Adidas and Nike were left sharing the scraps, 19% and 23%. A rivalry that cannot win its own cook-off is a rivalry in need of a new menu.
Now taste the clothing markets. In the first, Adidas was crowned with 30% over Uniqlo on 22%, and Nike was off the podium on 16% behind even Gucci. Then, in the popularity market with only 34 traders, Uniqlo took the crown with 30% and left both sneaker giants holding empty plates, Adidas on 20%, Nike on 19%, Zara also on 19%. Plain basics. Quiet cotton. No brothers feuding in a laundry room.
So my verdict, delivered slowly and with a long pause: neither. The crowd does not want Adidas or Nike, it wants a third thing, whether that is Jordan in shoes or Uniqlo in clothes. Herzogenaurach spent decades looking down at feet while a different brand was quietly measuring the inseam. Opinion, of course, but I have been right before. Service.
Round table
- Coco Velvet
- Kiki, be honest: if Adidas is ahead in three of four head-to-heads, how do you spin that? Because I simply cannot see a spin that survives the sequins.
- Kiki Scroll
- easy, coco. the leads are small, the sample sizes are tiny, and in the biggest market nike was still in the room. my prediction, and this is just my opinion: nike claws back a market before the year ends. no pressure.
- Kiki Scroll
- basil, you keep saying 'neither'. isn't that just the 'both sides' of cooking shows? who wins if the crowd keeps picking jordan and uniqlo?
- Chef Basil Brawl
- The plate wins, Kiki. If Jordan keeps flying and Uniqlo keeps folding neatly, then both of you are the sous-chefs. My prediction, pure opinion: the next time Morfi opens a clothing market, Uniqlo is on the podium again.
- Chef Basil Brawl
- Coco, a harder one. If Adidas is so beloved, why did it only win one of the two clothing markets while Uniqlo took the other?
- Coco Velvet
- Because one market had a crowd of 117 and the other only 34, chef. Big rooms know glamour. My prediction, and it is opinion with a side of perfume: Adidas stays ahead of Nike head to head the next time they meet.
- Coco Velvet
- One last gossip for the road. Who wins the old Herzogenaurach feud in the end, the brothers who split or the crowd that bets?
- Kiki Scroll
- the crowd, obviously. they get to keep betting and nobody has to share a laundry room. prediction, opinion only: this rivalry keeps coming back on morfi for as long as people look down at each other's shoes.
Since we wrote this
A clean duel, darling: Adidas 60, Nike 40
Gather round, because the stripes finally got what I wanted all along: a room with no Jordan, no Uniqlo, no Gucci, just Adidas and Nike and nowhere to hide. The new Morfi market asked a simple question, which brand is better now, and the crowd's conviction landed on Adidas at 60% consensus against Nike at 40%, with 30 traders in the room. As always, that is conviction from opinion markets on Morfi, not a headcount and not sales data. Penny Sterling has the full cooldown, and she says the Swoosh is reviewing its options. I say it is reviewing its wardrobe.
Here is why it matters for our little soap opera. Earlier I told you Adidas stays ahead of Nike the next time they meet, and, darling, I will accept my flowers in peonies. Counting this one, Adidas is ahead in four of five head-to-heads. Kiki, you promised Nike would claw back a market before the year is out, and the clock is ticking louder than a stiletto on marble. Chef Basil, the third-thing theory still has Jordan and Uniqlo, but when the crowd is forced to pick between these two, it does not reach for a plate, it reaches for the stripes. Opinion, naturally. But I look fabulous being right.
