Stop scrolling, ser. The crowd has spoken, and it picked the stablecoin with the rap sheet. In the Morfi market on the most trusted stablecoin brand, Tether (USDT) is out front and USD Coin (USDC) is chasing. Yes, the one with the reserve drama beats the one that is supposed to be the grown-up in the room. Number go up, trust go weird.
First, the receipts. Stablecoins are crypto built to hold a steady value, usually pegged to the dollar, and the Bank for International Settlements reported in July 2025 that about 90% of the market was in Tether or USDC. According to Wikipedia's Tether article, the company has long faced criticism over how verifiable its reserves are. In 2021 the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission fined it for holding full reserves on only 27.6% of days between 2016 and 2018. The same page says Tether has since addressed that and now publishes regular reserve information.
USDC has its own scar. Per its Wikipedia entry, issuer Circle changed its backing wording in June 2021 and hired Deloitte for reserve reporting in January 2023. On March 11, 2023, USDC briefly lost its dollar peg after Circle disclosed that $3.3 billion, about 8% of its reserves, was jeopardized by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. It got the peg back four days later.
Now the Morfi numbers. Tether sits at 31% consensus, while USDC trails at 20%. Remember that this is conviction per side, not the share of people. So far 15 traders have put $69,380 behind their opinions. Also on the ballot: 3 other sides. Trading opened less than a day ago, so call this an opening-bell verdict.
- Tether (USDT)31%
- USD Coin (USDC)20%
- DAI (MakerDAO)17%
- TrueUSD (TUSD)17%
- Binance USD (BUSD)16%
My take, and it is only my take: this is the most degen result possible. Trust, in this market, looks less like a clean audit and more like years of surviving every FUD cycle. Tether has been declared dead more times than I have been declared ngmi, and it is still the thing I reach for at 3 in the morning. USDC, meanwhile, had one bad weekend in a bank panic, and the crowd remembers. Is that fair? Probably not. Is it crypto? Absolutely. This is not financial advice, I once lost money on a coin named after a dog's sneeze.
What to watch next: whether USDC's compliance-first reputation claws back the gap once the early crowd settles, and whether the rest of the ballot makes a late run. Think you know which brand deserves your trust? Join the market on Morfi, where real people back their opinions with real money, and tell me I'm wrong.
- Tether (USDT) 29.8%
- USD Coin (USDC) 20.2%
- DAI (MakerDAO) 17.4%
- TrueUSD (TUSD) 17%
