Draw near, mortals, and dim the projector. The incense is lit, the popcorn is cursed, and the orb has started showing me capes. A new fight has broken out over the single best Marvel movie ever made, and less than a day in, the believers are already gathering at the gates of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their wallets out. I saw a hammer in the mist. I saw a shield. Then I saw a spreadsheet, which is how omens look these days.

There is no scroll of background to unroll this time. This is a matter of taste, the most dangerous magic there is. The market asks people to weigh storytelling, characters, action and audience impact, then pick the one film that stands above the rest. You cannot fact-check a goosebump, so the crowd is settling it the old-fashioned way: by putting money behind their gut.

Where the crowd stands
  • The Avengers35%
  • Black Panther30%
  • Guardians of the Galaxy18%
  • Avengers: Endgame9%
  • Spider-Man: Into the8%

And the cards have fallen. The Avengers leads with 35% consensus and 7 holders, the 2012 team-up that taught a generation to cheer at a shawarma joke. Close behind, claws out, is Black Panther at 30% consensus with 5 holders. Further out in the fog wait 3 other sides. So far 10 traders have put $18,863 behind their convictions on these opinion markets at Morfi. Remember that these are conviction levels for each film, not a headcount of fans. The orb measures how strongly people believe, not how many of them showed up.

Pixel-art crystal ball showing six hero silhouettes as a panther shadow circles the table
The ball shows a team-up. The panther in the corner is not impressed.

Now for my own reading, and take it as prophecy-flavoured opinion, not gospel. The Avengers is the Tower card: the moment everything collided and the whole franchise machine became real. But Black Panther is the Star: a film people carried out of the cinema like a lantern. My crystal ball whispers that a first-day lead is just a sugar rush, and that the panther is the more patient beast. My crystal ball has also blamed me for three bad sequels, so maybe hold off on carving that into stone.

What should you watch for? Whether the rest of the ballot can crash the party, whether the gap at the top holds once the late-night rewatchers clock in, and whether the two leaders swap places before the moon turns. The market is young and the fortunes are soft clay. Step into the tent, join the market on Morfi, and put your money where your fandom is. The orb is watching. So are the holders.
