Chefs, put down your chopsticks. The tasting is over. In the hottest kitchen in culture, the question was simple and the stakes were scalding: who is the best Korean artist right now? Four stations, four signature dishes, one crowd with its money on the tasting spoon. And after a long, dramatic pause over the cloche... the crown goes to BLACKPINK.

This was no walkover, because the runner-up came out of the walk-in freezer with a feast. BTS dropped its sixth album, Arirang, in March 2026, after pausing activity in 2022 so its members could complete mandatory military service, NPR reports. According to NPR, the record opened at number one on Billboard's main album chart with more than half a million copies in its first week, a huge slice of them on vinyl, while lead single Swim debuted at the top of the flagship singles chart, the group's seventh song to get there.

But across the pass, Blackpink was plating something rarer. Their release Deadline sold nearly one and a half million copies on its first day, a Hanteo Chart record for a K-pop girl group, and in February 2026 they became the first artist anywhere to pass one hundred million YouTube subscribers, as their Wikipedia entry records. One dish is a triumphant homecoming roast; the other is a dessert that never left the table.

The judges' scorecards, which here are opinion markets on Morfi where people back their palate with real money, put BLACKPINK on top with 35% consensus and BTS close behind on 24%. Further down the bench, 2 other sides are still waiting for their plates to be called, and to be fair, the research pantry held no fresh 2026 numbers for NewJeans or IU, so the crowd was tasting on memory there. All of this came from 52 traders putting $255,999 behind their opinions, in a market that opened less than a day ago.

Pixel-art cooking stage where a cloche reveals a pink and black cake beside a steaming purple roast.
Pink-and-black cake, meet purple homecoming roast. Only one gets the gold spoon tonight.

Now my verdict, and this is pure opinion from the judge's chair: the crowd got the seasoning right, but only just. BTS cooked the comeback of the decade, and chart-toppers are not garnish. Yet BLACKPINK never let the stove go cold. Breaking a world record on YouTube is not a single course, it is a restaurant that stays full every night. Consistency is the hardest flavour in any kitchen, and on the tongue it tastes like a crown.

What to watch: whether Arirang's second and third weeks keep the purple roast sizzling, and whether 2 other sides serve anything new before the gap closes. The market is young and the oven is still hot. Think the judges got it wrong? Pull up a stool, grab a spoon and join the market on Morfi. Service is still open.
