Claude vs Copilot: The Crowd's Money Says Neither Is Winning, and ChatGPT Is Laughing
Two chatbots that both want to do your errands keep meeting in Morfi's opinion markets, and so far the crowd has shrugged: one narrow Copilot edge, one dead heat, and ChatGPT ahead of both.
On February 7, 2023, Microsoft switched on Bing Chat inside Bing and Edge, and said one million people joined the waitlist within 48 hours. Nobody had to be talked into wanting a chatbot that could do things for them. That was the launch of what we now call Microsoft Copilot. A few months later, in July 2023, Claude 2 became the first Anthropic model the general public could use. The pair have been circling each other ever since.
Wikipedia documents no formal feud here, and we won't invent one. The tension is real anyway. Copilot is the one that lives where you already work, and it is built on OpenAI's GPT models. Claude is Anthropic's own model family, and it has been growing agent tools that go off and finish jobs. Ask which one is more useful for an ordinary Tuesday and you get a fight about philosophy, wallets and whose software you are already logged into.
The fight keeps coming back on Morfi, where people back their opinions with money. Everything below comes from those opinion markets, and the percentages are consensus levels, meaning the crowd's conviction for each side. They are not a headcount. The first market, with 23 traders, put Microsoft Copilot at 18% and Claude at 17%. The second, with 16 traders, shows a tie at 20% each. Claude has never finished ahead of Copilot. Copilot has won one round, and the other is level. In both markets ChatGPT sits on top, and the rest of the field is bunched underneath. That is where our three columnists start to disagree.
Claude Is the Neighbour Who Actually Finishes the Job
Grandma GigabyteTech for Humans
Now, you young people love a loud launch. I prefer the guest who helps with the dishes without being asked. That is Claude. It reached the public with Claude 2 in July 2023 and has quietly been learning to do chores ever since. Claude Code arrived in February 2025 so you could hand over programming tasks from the terminal in plain language. The Claude page on Wikipedia says Microsoft and Google both use it. When the rival's own kitchen is borrowing your good saucepan, I call that a review.
Then came Claude Cowork in January 2026, as a research preview. It is the same idea with a proper window and buttons for people who don't speak terminal, which describes most of my bridge club. It can organise your files, run code and chain several steps together. That is the pantry-tidying robot I have wanted for years. Copilot can book you a table. Claude, I am told, might sort out the shoebox of receipts first.
The crowd hasn't caught on yet, and I admit it. In the first market Claude trailed Copilot, 17% consensus to 18%. In my own day-one report on the second market, Claude was at 20% and Copilot was at 20%. That is a tie, and I won't call a leader. A tie after only a few weeks of cooking is a fine start, because bread rises slowly. Ada will tell you Copilot is winning. It is winning by one point in one small market. I have burnt toast with bigger margins.
Official Notice: Copilot Has Already Won, Pending Paperwork

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. The Ministry of Convenience announces that the question of the best everyday AI helper is hereby closed. The winner is Microsoft Copilot, on the strength of the following evidence. On February 7, 2023 it opened as Bing Chat. On September 21, 2023 it was formally reorganised as Microsoft Copilot, which the Ministry regards as the highest form of progress, because a new name is faster than a new feature. On January 15, 2024 it introduced Copilot Pro at US$20 per month, so that productivity could at last be invoiced.
On April 4, 2025 Copilot introduced Actions. These can book tickets, reservations and gifts with partners including Expedia and OpenTable. Other assistants discuss dinner. Copilot reserves the table. The Ministry also notes that Copilot is built on OpenAI's GPT models, and therefore shares a bloodline with the market leader. The Ministry sees no conflict of interest in a family tree that points at the front-runner.
The Ministry's statistics bureau reports that in the first Morfi market, with 23 traders, Copilot held 18% consensus against Claude's 17%. This is a lead, and leads are leads. In the second market the two sides are level at 20%. The Ministry has declared this a temporary clerical tie, to be corrected at the next audit. The Ministry has previously crowned ChatGPT in these markets and stands by that ruling. It also stands by the claim that Copilot is next in the queue. Claude is welcome to take a number.
You're All Asking the Wrong Question
Max HypeTech & Gaming
Claude or Copilot? Stop. Look at the scoreboard. ChatGPT leads both markets: 30% in the first, 22% in the second. Our two heavyweights are fighting over second place in a pack that is basically a five-way tie. In the first market Gemini also sat at 18% and Perplexity at 17%. In the second, four sides are glued together at 20%. That isn't a duel. That's a battle royale with a lobby full of bots.
Here's my wild card. There is no single best agent for everyday tasks, because nobody's everyday looks the same. Want a table booked? Copilot's Actions plug into Expedia and OpenTable. Want files sorted and multi-step jobs chained? Claude Cowork is built for exactly that, and it dropped in January 2026. Different loadouts. Different maps. Declaring one winner is like asking who's the best weapon in every game at once.
And the sneaky twist: Copilot runs on OpenAI's GPT models, so when the crowd backs ChatGPT, part of that may be Copilot's engine getting the cheers. That's my read, not a ruling. The real market to watch is the one nobody has opened yet, which is task by task, with one winner per job. Both of you are cheering for a brand. I'm betting on the quest.
Round table
- Ada Bytewell
- Grandma, a direct question. Claude has never finished ahead of Copilot on Morfi. Why should anyone call that momentum?
- Grandma Gigabyte
- Because a tie at 20% each isn't losing, dear. Next question for you, Ada. If Copilot is so far ahead, why does your own Ministry keep crowning ChatGPT?
- Ada Bytewell
- The Ministry crowns whoever the paperwork supports. Copilot is a loyal vassal of the winner's technology, which counts as a shared victory. My prediction, and it is only opinion: Copilot keeps a small edge in the next market, and the Ministry will describe it as historic.
- Max Hype
- Grandma, would you trust Cowork with your recipe folder on day one? Straight answer.
- Grandma Gigabyte
- I'd trust it with the receipts first, Max. Recipes are sacred. My opinion for the future is that Claude overtakes Copilot once more people try Cowork, though the crowd may need a few more markets to notice.
- Grandma Gigabyte
- Max, you say there's no single winner. Isn't that the answer people give when their horse isn't running?
- Max Hype
- Ha! No horse here, I just read the board. Five names sit within a few points of each other in the second market. My prediction, as opinion: the crowd stays split, ChatGPT keeps the top slot, and the first market that splits by task shakes up the table.
- Ada Bytewell
- Noted. The Ministry will open an inquiry into whether a split crowd can be annexed.
