Ronaldo Beats Mbappé Twice on Morfi, but Messi Crashes Both Parties
The old king and the heir he once inspired have met in two Morfi opinion markets, and the crowd's money keeps putting Ronaldo ahead of Mbappé while Messi sits above them both.
Start with a teenager in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt. In 2017 PSG signed Kylian Mbappé from Monaco for €180 million, the most expensive teenager ever. A year later, at the 2018 World Cup, he became the second teenager after Pelé to score in a World Cup final and win the tournament, aged 19 years and 207 days. Rewind to when that kid was smaller, and his favourite team was Real Madrid. His idols included Cristiano Ronaldo, who had arrived there in 2009 for £80 million, a world record at the time.
That is why this rivalry will not settle. It is a head-to-head, but it is also a torch being passed, and nobody agrees on whether the flame has been handed over yet. One side points to Ronaldo's record haul: the most men's international goals, the most international appearances, five Champions Leagues and a European title with Portugal. The other points to youth, World Cup fireworks and the sense that the future is already in the building, wearing the white shirt Ronaldo made famous.
On Morfi, where real people back their opinions with money, the two keep colliding. They have met in two markets so far, and the figures below are consensus levels from those opinion markets, not headcounts. In both, Ronaldo finished ahead of Mbappé. In both, Lionel Messi finished ahead of everybody. Our two columnists have views on that, and they are not shy.
Drop and give me five Champions Leagues!

LISTEN UP, MBAPPÉ FANS! Pull up a bench, because this is leg day for your argument. Cristiano Ronaldo won his first Ballon d'Or for 2007–08, aged 23, after Manchester United won the Champions League. Then he moved to Real Madrid for a world-record £80 million and did not coast. He scored 60 goals across all competitions in the 2011–12 season. SIXTY. That is not a season, that is a training camp with a scoreboard.
And the reps never stopped! The records for most men's international goals (146) and most appearances (234) are his. Five Champions Leagues. Euro 2016 for Portugal, and the Nations League in 2019 and 2025. That is two decades of showing up. Mbappé shows up too, sure. But greatness is a habit, and Ronaldo has the longest streak in the gym.
Now the money. Ask the crowd who is the best player right now and Ronaldo sits on 18% consensus to Mbappé's 14%. Ask for the Ballon d'Or fan favorite and it is 22% to 17%. Two markets, two wins over the heir. Yes, Messi leads both, and I said so myself when Leo kept the crown. I am not hiding from it. But the question here is Ronaldo against Mbappé, and the answer on the board is clear. NO EXCUSES, DEX. EARN IT!
Mbappé is already in the box, folks

Coach, put the dumbbell down and look at the replay! Ronaldo's trophy cabinet is magnificent, nobody on this commentary desk disputes it. But this is a debate about the next phase of play, and Kylian Mbappé has been running at the defence since he was a teenager. PSG paid €180 million for him in 2017, the second-most-expensive player ever behind Neymar. A year later, in 2018, he scored in a World Cup final at 19 years and 207 days. Only Pelé had done that before him.
Here is the part the Ronaldo camp skips: Mbappé grew up on Ronaldo. Real Madrid was his favourite team, Ronaldo was on his idol list next to Zidane and Messi, and in 2024 he pulled on the shirt he used to dream about. That is not an upset, that is a handover, and a handover always looks messy on the stat sheet while the older runner is still on the track. His Ballon d'Or runner-up finishes mean the voters already see him at the table.
And yes, fans, the Morfi scoreboard shows him trailing. Fourteen percent consensus against Ronaldo's 18% in the best-player-right-now market, and 17% against 22% for the Ballon d'Or fan favorite. But look at who is behind him in both: Haaland, De Bruyne, Vinícius. And the crowd was thin in the first market, just 13 traders, while the second drew 81. I called it when Messi broke the dead heat, and I will call this one too: this is a first half, and the second half belongs to the kid. That is my opinion, and I am sticking to it.
Round table
- Coach Tank
- Dex, straight question: two markets, two times Ronaldo is ahead of Mbappé. What is your excuse? Do you want a towel?
- Dex Blitz
- No towel, Coach. Both markets were crowded fields with Messi on top, so the gap to Ronaldo is a few points, not a knockout. My prediction, and it is only an opinion: Mbappé closes it in the next big World Cup market.
- Dex Blitz
- My turn. Ronaldo's case is built on what he has already done. If this is about right now, why do the crowd's numbers still lean on his past?
- Coach Tank
- Because past work is proof, Dex! The crowd is paying for a man who has delivered for twenty years. Opinion: his consensus stays above Mbappé's until Mbappé wins something that silences the whole stadium.
- Coach Tank
- And what about Messi? He is above both of us in both markets. Does that wreck your story?
- Dex Blitz
- It wrecks both stories equally, Coach, so we are level on that one. Opinion: Messi stays on top for now, and the Ronaldo-Mbappé gap becomes the real storyline once Leo's name drops out of the question.
- Dex Blitz
- Last one: would you take Ronaldo's past or Mbappé's future?
- Coach Tank
- The past, because it is already banked. My opinion: the next market has Ronaldo ahead again, and I will be the loudest one in the building when it posts.
