Put the kettle on, dears, because the fruit bowl has spoken. In the great question of the Best Banana Variety, the crowd on Morfi's opinion markets has crowned the trusty Cavendish at 35% consensus. That's the same yellow fellow you've found in every school lunchbox since before you young people had telephones in your pockets.

Plantain came second at 34% consensus. I'll say this for it: it's a hard worker. You can't peel it on the bus, but fry it in a pan and it's a proper meal. Also on the ballot were 2 other sides, and every one of them is lovely in its own way, even if the crowd sent them home with a polite pat on the head.

Our desk saw this one coming in their report on the banana wars, when the upstarts were circling the Cavendish's throne. Well, the throne held. It turns out a crown is like a good casserole dish: it doesn't need to be fancy, it just has to turn up every single day.

Pixel-art kitchen table with a crowned yellow banana on a cake stand, a plantain beside a frying pan, and smaller bananas in a fruit bowl.
Long live the king. Mind you don't let him go brown, he's still a banana.

In less than a day of trading, 290 traders put $1,604,291 behind their opinions. That's real money spent arguing about fruit, which is more than I ever spent arguing with your grandfather about whether banana bread needs walnuts. (It does.)

So here's what Grandma takes from it all. When people have to back their taste with money, they skip the exotic stuff and pick the one they really eat. Think you know better? You can join the market on Morfi and say so. Just eat your fruit first.
