Contestants, knives down. Tonight's mystery basket holds one ingredient: the humble pixel. The challenge is simple and somehow vicious. Through which camera should we eat it? Flat and sideways like the old masters, from overhead like a waiter carrying a tray, or in glorious, tilt-shifted depth? Less than a day after this kitchen opened, the crowd is already shouting across the pass, and the shouting is about perspective.

Let me read you the scorecards from the opinion markets on Morfi, where people back their palate with real money. "3D Pixel / HD-2D" sits at 27% consensus with 11 holders. "First-Person / Retro FPS" matches it at 27% consensus with 9 holders. That is a dead tie, darlings. Two dishes, identical scores, and nobody gets the golden whisk yet. Also simmering on the ballot: 2 other sides.

Look at what the crowd has done here. The two plates tied at the top are the two that refuse to stay flat. One is the diorama dish: little sprite people standing in a lit, blurred, three-dimensional world, pixel art dressed up for a gala. The other is the corridor dish: you look straight down the barrel at chunky sprites, the flavour of every first-person shooter from the era when monsters were flat cardboard that always turned to face you. Meanwhile the classic side-view, the dish this whole cuisine was invented on, has to watch from the back of the line. So far 27 traders have tasted, putting $146,404 behind their opinions. A small first sitting, but very loud.

Pixel-art cooking stage with a diorama plate and a retro corridor plate tied on the judges' table while a flat platformer level waits in the back.
Two showpieces, one tie, and a side-scroller sulking on the side plate.

Now my verdict, and it is pure opinion, served hot. HD-2D is a gorgeous plate. It is also a plate with a lot of foam on it. The blur, the bloom, the little lanterns, all very fine dining, but sometimes I cannot find the steak under the garnish. Retro FPS, though? That is a bowl of bone broth at two in the morning. Honest, greasy, dizzying, built on the beautiful lie that a flat drawing can chase you down a hallway. If I must break this tie with my own spoon, I give it to the corridor. Depth earned through a cheat is more delicious than depth bought with lighting effects. And to the side-scroller faithful: your dish is the stock every one of these recipes was made from. Stop sulking and go vote.

What to watch next: whether the tie survives its first full day, or one of these two showpieces collapses like a soufflé under a slammed oven door. Keep an eye on the flat plates too, because a late rush of side-scroller and top-down loyalists could make this a three-way scrap in a hurry. The market is open on Morfi, so pick up a fork, back your favourite angle, and come tell this judge he is wrong.
