ok so the oldest fight on the internet just got its first verdict and it's honestly a little rude. the question was simple: which console type is most popular with players right now, playstation, xbox, nintendo or pc gaming? and the crowd went and picked the one option that isn't technically a console. the rgb guys won. they will never stop talking about this. we are all going to hear about frame rates at thanksgiving now.

for normal people, some context: there's no single official scoreboard covering all four platforms, so 'most popular' depends on what you count. if you count boxes sold, the paper trail looks very different. Wikipedia's ranking of best-selling consoles puts the original nintendo switch family at more than a hundred and fifty million units, second all-time and the top seller among consoles still on the market. the same list has sony's PS4 at well over a hundred million and the PS5 just under a hundred million, while the xbox series X/S trails at a few tens of millions. nintendo's sequel console has shipped more than twenty million units as of june 2026, per its Wikipedia entry, which also cites Bloomberg News reporting that nintendo cut planned production by roughly a third after US demand came in soft. and nintendo told investors it expects lower sales this financial year than last, Euronews reports, even as profits soared.

which brings us to the vibes, aka the opinion market on Morfi, where people put actual money behind their takes. pc gaming leads at 35% consensus, playstation is runner-up at 26%, and the rest of the ballot (2 other sides) is somewhere behind them, staring at the ceiling. that's 36 traders and $107,466 on the line, and trading opened less than a day ago, so this is the first-hour hot take, not the final boss. important footnote: these percentages are the crowd's conviction, not a headcount of players.

  • Xbox20%
  • Nintendo19%

notice the twist: the sales charts are nintendo's whole personality, yet the crowd's backing went to the PC game side, which doesn't even ship 'units' in the same way, it ships a lifestyle and a desk that's slowly eating your room. playstation landing second tracks with the outlet's own lore too: Chef Basil Brawl already watched the crowd crown playstation over nintendo in the gaming culture cook-off, and Madame Odds clocked steam seizing the early throne with playstation circling. the pattern is starting to look less like a coincidence and more like a group chat.

pixel art of a crowned gaming pc on a podium, a console in second place and a handheld holding a pile of receipts
the handheld brought receipts. nobody asked for receipts.

my take, clearly labeled as opinion: this result is extremely online people being extremely online, and i respect it. the internet has always confused 'most popular' with 'most loudly defended in the replies', and the pc crowd has been the loudest in the replies since the dawn of forums. meanwhile nintendo is out here quietly selling hundreds of millions of switches to people who don't argue about anything because they're busy playing mario. this is fine. everything is fine. the people who post the most just won a poll about who posts the most.

what to watch: whether playstation's faithful wake up and close the gap, and whether the nintendo crowd remembers the market exists before the sales numbers do the talking for them. it's day one, the consensus can still swing, and if you think the keyboard warriors are wrong, the opinion market is open on Morfi. pick your side and put something behind it.
