Lobby's open. Two champions. One crown. A fresh opinion market on Morfi asks the oldest question in crypto: which coin is the most compelling one right now? It's Bitcoin vs Ethereum. The OG store of value vs the world computer. Community sentiment, utility, ecosystem strength, all on the table. Trading opened less than a day ago and people are already picking sides. Is this the rematch of the decade? You bet it is.

First, the patch notes, because 2026 has been rough on both of them. The EU markets watchdog ESMA's mid-2026 risk report says Bitcoin lost about a third of its value in the first half of the year, while Ether lost more than half. Money pulled out of US spot Ether funds even faster than out of the Bitcoin ones. But there's a twist: ESMA also finds Ethereum still holds more than half of all value locked in decentralized finance, even though that share has slipped since the end of 2025. So one side has the stronger price chart and the other is still where the DeFi action happens.

Then came the comeback arc. Euronews reported in August that Bitcoin broke out of a six-week sideways grind and spiked hard as short sellers got squeezed, though it was still sitting more than half below its October 2025 all-time high. My colleague Penny Sterling already covered the crowd's verdict that Bitcoin hadn't hit bottom yet. Now the question isn't where the floor is. It's who wears the crown.

And the crowd's answer so far? Bitcoin leads with 54% consensus from 57 holders. Ethereum is close behind at 46% with 23 holders. That's 69 unique traders and $125,799 put behind their opinions in the opening hours. Remember, these percentages show how strongly the crowd backs each side, not a head count. Right now that backing tracks the ESMA numbers: the coin that bled less is out in front.

Where the crowd stands
  • Bitcoin (BTC)54%
  • Ethereum (ETH)46%

My take? Bitcoin is the tank. It soaks up damage, it doesn't patch itself every season, and when the market rage-quits, it's still standing. Ethereum is the support main carrying the whole DeFi squad on its back while getting zero credit for it. If this were a contest for the best ecosystem, I'd say ETH clutches it. But the question says right now, and right now the crowd wants the coin that took fewer hits. That's my opinion, not financial advice. Pure hype-man instinct.

Tank vs mage. Round one goes to the shield, but the mage is still charging up.

What to watch: whether Bitcoin's late-summer rally holds, and whether Ethereum can win back its DeFi share and pull money back into ETH funds. One big candle could flip this lobby. This fight is only hours old, so the leaderboard is wide open. Think the crowd has it wrong? Join the market on Morfi and put your money where your take is. GG, no re.
