Most policy arguments about firearms are about what the law should say. This one asks a narrower question: what should a safety message say? A new opinion market on Morfi asks which style of gun safety messaging would do the most to reduce accidents and misuse. The options are safe storage, training, responsible-ownership guidance, secure handling, and broader community prevention.

After less than a day of trading, "Handgun Retrieval and Secure" leads with 22% consensus from 4 holders. "Responsible Ownership Messaging" is second at 21%, backed by 3 holders. Also on the ballot: 3 other sides.

  • Responsible Ownership Messaging21%
  • Safe Storage First19%
  • Training and Certification Focus19%
  • Community Violence Prevention18%

A quick note on terms. These percentages measure consensus, meaning how strongly the backers of each side hold their view. They are not a headcount. That matters here, because the early lead tells you which approach its supporters feel strongly about. It does not tell you how many people prefer it.

My reading, offered as opinion: the leader is the most concrete option. "Store it securely and handle it carefully" is an instruction you can act on. "Be responsible" is a value you're asked to agree with. Anyone who has watched a public service announcement knows that specific instructions tend to land better than general appeals to good character. The runner-up does have a reasonable case, though. Ownership messaging can cover storage, training and judgement in one go, and a broad message sometimes travels further than a precise one.

So far the crowd prefers a message about the box over a sermon about the owner.

It's early. The market has 12 unique traders so far and $44,633 committed, and one day of data gives you a direction, not a result. Community prevention framing and training-first messaging still have plenty of time to make their case. If you have a view on which message would actually change behaviour, you can join the market on Morfi and put money behind it. That's more than most messaging strategies ask of their authors.
