Draw the curtains, darlings, and lower your voices. Something heavy and well locked away has risen out of the mist. The crowd was asked which kind of gun safety message would actually stop accidents and misuse: safe storage, training, responsible ownership guidance, secure handling, or the big community-wide picture. The tarot deck went quiet. Then one card came up, cold and steel-grey: Handgun Retrieval and Secure. The orb has picked a winner, and I can tell you it's the kind with a combination lock.
Now step out of the incense smoke for a moment, because this is no parlour game. Public health researchers and medical groups are still arguing over how to frame these messages to cut unintentional injuries, youth suicide and violence. NPR reports on a 2025 action plan on gun violence, co-written by researchers at Johns Hopkins and Washington University. It calls for a community-wide approach that tackles socioeconomic inequality, and it also accepts that arrests and incarceration are still needed for public safety. Here's what the spirits won't tell you, so I will: none of the sources in my scrolls show that any single message style persuades audiences best, and I found no direct evidence on handgun retrieval messaging at all.

The crowd charged ahead anyway. On Morfi's opinion markets, Handgun Retrieval and Secure holds 30% consensus. Responsible Ownership Messaging is runner-up at 19%, and the rest of the ballot (3 other sides) trails behind. That's 128 traders putting $509,767 behind their convictions, and the market isn't even a day old. So the community-wide framing the researchers champion isn't the one the crowd's conviction is gathering around. The crowd wants the message that ends at a locked drawer, not the one that starts in a city budget meeting.
Here is my reading, and it's an opinion, not a prophecy. The crowd is right to love a message with something physical in it. "Be responsible" is a fog. "Here is how you lock it, here is how you get to it" is an instruction your hands can follow at two in the morning. But a crystal ball that only shows the inside of one house misses the street outside. If the researchers are right that prevention has to reach the whole community, then the lockbox is one card, not the whole spread.
Watch the gap between the leader and Responsible Ownership Messaging as the next wave of traders arrives. Early verdicts on Morfi have a way of shifting before dawn. Watch too for whether anyone produces real evidence on retrieval messaging, because right now the crowd is out ahead of the science. Think the orb has misread the cards? Join the market on Morfi and put your conviction where the candle burns.
