You young people will argue about anything, but nothing gets the gravy boiling like this one: Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone. It's the cousins at Christmas who won't share the good chair. A fresh market opened on Morfi less than a day ago asking which brand suits you more, and before I'd finished buttering my toast the crowd had already split down the middle of the tablecloth.

Let me explain what the fuss is about, because it isn't just the colour of the casing. Galaxy phones run Google's Android software and iPhones run Apple's own iOS, so choosing one is a bit like choosing which family you marry into. According to Wikipedia's iPhone page, Samsung sells more phones, a little over a fifth of the world's market against Apple's roughly one in six, yet Apple pockets nearly half of all smartphone revenue and the lion's share of the profits. That's the difference between the stall that sells the most jam and the one charging the most for each jar.

And the two have history. They've dragged each other through American courts in the patent fights over phone design, and between them they made about two in five of all smartphones sold worldwide as of 2024. This year both brought fresh dishes to the table: Samsung announced its Galaxy S26 series in late February 2026, and Apple's newest iOS comes with a new Siri built together with, of all people, Google. Imagine the vicar baking a cake with the other parish's choirmaster.

So where does the crowd land? On the opinion market at Morfi, where people back their views with real money, the Apple iPhone is ahead with 62% consensus from 7 holders, while the Samsung Galaxy sits at 38% with 14 holders. In all, 16 traders have put $56,470 behind their opinions. Mind you, these are levels of conviction, not a head count. The crowd isn't saying how many people own which phone; it's saying how firmly it believes in each side. Which rather mirrors those sales figures: Samsung may have more phones in more pockets, but Apple has the louder believers.

This isn't the first time the family has been through this. My colleague Ada Bytewell already watched the iPhone win an earlier brand war, and I had my own go when the Galaxy FE took on the iPhone duo, where Samsung actually started ahead. So nobody should be setting out the trophy just yet.

Weighing them up like two loaves: one's dearer, the other's got more slices.

Now here's my opinion, and it is only an opinion. The iPhone is the fancy biscuit tin: lovely, tidy, and once you're in, good luck getting the lid off to leave. The Galaxy is the big kitchen drawer where you can rearrange everything as you please, and Samsung promises support for its phones for years, out to about 2032 for the S25, which is longer than my last kettle lasted. If you like being looked after, go Apple. If you like choosing for yourself, go Samsung. But I'll say this to the crowd: paying more doesn't make you right, dears. It only makes you more attached.

What to watch next: this market is barely a day old, so the lead is still soft as a fresh scone. The new Siri reaching people's pockets and the S26 settling into everyday use could shift things either way. If you've got strong feelings about which phone suits you, come and join the market on Morfi and put your conviction where your mouth is. I'll keep the kettle on.
