Plates down, everyone. The judges have tasted, the tasting spoons are in the bin, and the verdict is in: in the Ethereum price cook-off, "Up" takes the crown. Yes, the same dish that has been coming out of the oven scorched for most of the year. The crowd looked at a soufflé that has collapsed more often than a nervous contestant and said: this time it rises.

Let's be honest about what's in the pan. The latest hard numbers come from the iShares Ethereum Trust's quarterly filing, which covers a period ending in mid-2026 rather than today. According to that filing, ether, the native asset of Ethereum, lost close to a quarter of its value between April and June 2026, sliding from a little above two thousand dollars to under sixteen hundred. The same document says ether hit an all-time high of just under five thousand dollars in August 2025, so by June it had given back nearly two-thirds of that peak. The trust also reported billions of dollars in losses for the first half of 2026.

Then comes the line that should hang above every crypto kitchen: the filing notes that sharp rallies followed by steep drawdowns have happened several times in ether's history, including 2021-2022 and 2025-2026. Boom, bust, repeat. That's the menu. And it's why the crowd's decision matters, because they aren't judging a calm kitchen. They're judging one that keeps setting off the smoke alarm.

Where the crowd stands
  • Up60%
  • Down40%

Here's the scorecard from the opinion markets on Morfi, where people put money behind what they believe. "Up" leads with 60% consensus, and "Down" trails at 40%. That's 14 traders and $149,078 on the table, all within a day of the market opening. Only weeks ago, when I last had ether on the chopping block, the crowd smelled burning and plated "Down" first. Now the conviction has swung the other way. The data says the crash was real. The crowd's conviction says the crash is the past.

My verdict, and it's only my opinion, served with a theatrical pause... I respect the nerve. Backing "Up" after a year like this is like asking the judges for a second taste of the dish that gave them indigestion. But great chefs know a collapsed soufflé can still teach you the right temperature. Sentiment has bounced off the bottom of the pan before, and my colleague Madame Odds has already seen the crowd crown Ethereum queen of crypto attention. Attention is the yeast. I'm calling this bold, a little underseasoned on evidence, and absolutely delicious television.

Pixel-art soufflé shaped like a glowing crystal rising from a scorched oven in front of a judging table
The soufflé rises. Whether it holds is the judges' problem tomorrow.

What to watch: whether the next price figures back up the crowd's appetite, or whether ether goes through another rally-and-drop like the ones in that filing. This market is less than a day old, so the dish is still in the oven and the pass is open. Think "Up" is undercooked or "Down" deserves a second taste? Pick a side and join the market on Morfi.
