Dim the lights and cross my palm with stablecoins, darlings, because the cards have been shuffled for Meta Platforms and the one that landed face up shows a tower falling. The crowd on Morfi has given its verdict on the stock that rules Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and the verdict is Down. A grim omen indeed. Or so it seems, until you lean in and read the small print in the smoke.

Why so much gloom around the house of the blue thumb? The spirits keep a long memory. After its third-quarter results in 2025, Meta's shares fell more than seven percent in after-hours trading, Euronews reported, once the company warned that its expenses would grow much faster in 2026. In the same report, some analysts said the quarter wasn't that bad and that management still expected ad revenue to stay strong. Meanwhile the company put its 2025 capital spending at seventy to seventy-two billion dollars, the top end of its earlier range, according to France 24. That's a lot of gold to pour into the AI cauldron.

Then came a darker spring. By early April 2026, NPR reported, Meta had lost two pivotal court cases, laid off hundreds of people and seemed to be scaling back its bet on the metaverse, while analysts called its turn toward artificial intelligence a mixed bag. The ledger doesn't look like a company in ruins, though. Meta's own filing shows net income of more than fifteen billion dollars for the three months ended June 30, 2026. Omens of ruin and piles of profit at once: no wonder the crowd is uneasy.

  • Up34%

So here's the reading. On Morfi's opinion markets, Down holds 66% consensus and Up trails at 34%, with 22 traders putting $207,537 behind their convictions. This is a two-horse séance, and Down leads, but the market opened less than a day ago. The candle has barely been lit. Not long ago my colleague Chef Basil Brawl watched the crowd back Meta to rise, so the mood around this stock moves more like a weathervane than a tombstone.

Pixel-art crystal ball showing a glowing thumbs-up flipping downward, surrounded by tarot cards and candle smoke.
The thumb has turned, my dears, though the candle has barely burned an inch.

And now my own prophecy, which is opinion straight from the incense and not a fact from any ledger. I think the crowd is spooked by the size of the spending more than by the business itself. When an empire pours fortunes into machines it can't yet fully explain, mortals get nervous. But a company that keeps printing billions every quarter isn't a ghost yet. My orb says Down is a mood, not a doom, and moods in this tent tend to swing at the next earnings card.

Keep watching the next earnings report and whatever Meta says about its AI spending. Those guidance warnings have rattled the stock before, and they will again. Until then the cards are still being dealt. Join the market on Morfi, put your conviction where your crystal ball is, and tell Madame Odds whether this falling tower climbs back up.
