Chefs, step away from your stations. A fresh cook-off opened less than a day ago and the kitchen is already full of smoke. The dish is Bitcoin, the target is $85K, and the secret ingredient everyone is arguing about is today's US inflation data. One camp says the soufflé is about to rise again. The other says it's going to sit there wobbling below the rim. Which one plates first? (dramatic pause) Let's taste.
First, the state of the pantry, and it isn't pretty. Euronews reported that Bitcoin had fallen to about sixty-one thousand dollars, down more than a quarter in a single month as long-term holders sold billions, wiping out all its gains for the year. An iShares Bitcoin Trust filing goes further: Bitcoin hit an all-time high of roughly one hundred twenty-six thousand dollars in October 2025 and then dropped below sixty thousand in June 2026, losing more than half its value. That's not a dip. That's a soufflé that fell through the oven floor.
So why $85K? Because somebody is already cooking at that temperature. Strategy's latest filing shows it bought a few hundred more BTC in the first days of October 2026 at an average price of just under eighty-six thousand dollars. That puts $85K right where the action is, the line Bitcoin has to clear and hold. One honest note from the pass: our research couldn't find the actual text of today's inflation release or how markets reacted to it, so any link between the two is the crowd's interpretation, not something we've confirmed.

The early scorecard on Morfi's opinion markets: "Reclaims $85K soon" leads with 32% consensus from 9 holders, and "Volatile range under $85K" follows at 25% with 7 holders. Also on the menu: 2 other sides. So far 12 traders have put $28,082 behind their calls. Remember, these percentages measure the crowd's conviction, not a headcount. And that conviction is leaning bullish even though the price history above is mostly bad news. My colleague Madame Odds has watched this same tug-of-war before, when the crowd crowned Bitcoin's bulls for the day, and the bulls keep coming back for seconds.
My verdict, and it's purely the opinion of a judge with a sharp palate: the leading dish is undercooked. I love the ambition, I really do. Chasing a big institutional buyer's average price is like copying the head chef's recipe and hoping it tastes the same in your own pan. But a coin that has lost half its value doesn't bounce back on one inflation print. It simmers first. I'm giving my spoon to the volatile range: lots of bubbling, lots of heat, and no clean plate above $85K just yet. Prove me wrong, bulls. I'll happily eat my words with a side of crème fraîche.
What to watch: whether the inflation reading changes expectations at the Federal Reserve, where the ten-year Treasury yield sits as rates take shape, and whether big buyers keep adding at these prices. This market has only just opened, so the order of the sides can still change fast. Pick your side, put your conviction behind it, and join the market on Morfi before the judges ring the bell.
