Chefs, hands off your stations. The tasting is over. The question was simple, and nobody in the kitchen treated it that way: which anime is the most popular right now? Five heavyweight franchises brought their best dish, and the crowd has picked one. Jujutsu Kaisen takes the golden spoon. Yes, the cursed-energy brawler beat the demon-hunting blockbuster. Somebody get Demon Slayer a chair.

That result is a surprise on paper, because on paper Demon Slayer was carrying the most decorated plate in the room. According to Wikipedia's record of the tenth Crunchyroll Anime Awards, held in Tokyo in May 2026, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle won seven awards, more than anything else that night, including Film of the Year. The same ceremony gave Anime of the Year to the final season of My Hero Academia, the first concluding season ever to win the top prize. At the cinema, Wikipedia's list of the highest-grossing Japanese films puts Infinity Castle at roughly eight hundred and twenty million dollars worldwide, with Mugen Train also past half a billion. And the old giant, One Piece, has more than six hundred million manga copies in circulation, which makes it the best-selling manga series of all time.

Where the crowd stands

  • Demon Slayer23%
  • One Piece21%
  • My Hero Academia14%
  • Attack on Titan12%

The judges' table on Morfi ignored all of that. In these opinion markets, Jujutsu Kaisen sits on top with 30% consensus, and Demon Slayer follows at 23%. The rest of the menu is 3 other sides. These numbers measure the crowd's conviction, not a head count: 33 traders put $71,595 behind their palates, and trading opened less than a day ago. So the crowd isn't scoring lifetime sales or trophies. It's scoring the buzz in the room tonight, and those are different dishes.

Regulars at this pass will remember that when I last plated up the anime cook-off, Demon Slayer was out ahead of One Piece. Tonight the blades have been pushed off the top spot, and not by the pirates. The upset came from a series with fewer copies sold than either of them, and in my book that makes it the most delicious result on the board.

Pixel-art cooking stage where a golden spoon is placed on a plate surrounded by purple flames, next to a sword-garnished dish left under a heat lamp.
Purple flame beats a firestorm. The judges have tasted, and the judges have spoken.

Now my verdict, and it is pure opinion, served hot. This is the right call. Demon Slayer is a gorgeous banquet, but a banquet you already ate in a cinema seat, and the crowd was asked about appetite, not about the receipt. Jujutsu Kaisen is the chili oil of anime: sharp, chaotic, and impossible to stop talking about. Trophies are leftovers from a past service. Buzz is what's sizzling on the grill now. Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia have taken their bows with full honours, and their dishes are cooling on the pass. One Piece will be simmering long after all of us have hung up our aprons, so it can afford to lose one round.

What to watch next: this kitchen opened less than a day ago, the gap at the top is a clean lead and not a blowout, and Demon Slayer's fans have never shied away from a second course. One big trailer or one viral episode could reshuffle the whole table. Think your favourite deserves the spoon? The data comes from live opinion markets on Morfi, and you can join the market, put your money where your mouth is, and fight it out at the stove. Service!
