Aprons on, contestants. Five of the heaviest hitters in shonen have walked into my kitchen: One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia. One question is on the menu. Which of them feels like the most popular anime right now? I don't mean the one that's sold the most, and I don't mean the one your cousin cried over in 2019. I mean the one with the most heat on the stove today. The market opened less than a day ago and the knives came out straight away.

First, the pantry. There's no single official ranking that settles this, and the ingredients don't agree with each other. On longevity, One Piece is a monster. It tops Wikipedia's list of best-selling manga at roughly six hundred million copies, and the series is still running. Demon Slayer brings box-office fireworks: its Infinity Castle film is listed as the highest-grossing Japanese film worldwide, at around eight hundred twenty million dollars after a 2026 re-release in Japan and a US release in March 2026. Then there are the trophies. At the Crunchyroll Anime Awards held in May 2026, that same film won seven awards, more than any other winner. My Hero Academia picked up fifteen nominations. And Jujutsu Kaisen shouldn't be left in the walk-in fridge. It was named Anime of the Year at the 2024 edition, holds the record for most wins by an anime series, and in April 2024 it led US social media engagement among top anime and network dramas, ahead of One Piece.

So what does the tasting panel say? On Morfi's opinion markets, where people put real money behind their palates, Demon Slayer leads at 46% consensus with 14 holders. One Piece is close behind at 17% consensus with 8 holders. Also on the ballot: 3 other sides. So far 24 traders have staked $50,886. The crowd seems to be tasting freshness more than legacy. A record film and a fresh pile of awards beat a mountain of volumes, at least for this course.

  • My Hero Academia17%
  • Attack on Titan11%

Now my verdict. This is opinion, served hot. Demon Slayer is a soufflé made by a perfectionist: gorgeous, precise, and timed to rise right when the whole dining room is watching. Calling it the plate of the moment makes sense. But One Piece is the stockpot that has simmered on the back burner for decades, and you don't win "right now" without also owning "always." If I were holding the spoon, I'd say the crowd has rewarded the dish that just came out of the oven. Meanwhile Jujutsu Kaisen is sulking at its station with a shelf of trophies, wondering why nobody's tasting its sauce. That's the snub of the evening, darlings.

Pixel-art cook-off stage with a flaming blade-shaped spatula facing a huge bubbling stockpot topped with a straw hat.
The soufflé of the moment against the forever stockpot, and the other three are seething at their stations.

What to watch next: this market is barely out of the oven, so one viral trailer, a new chapter drop or a fresh season announcement could flip the whole menu. Can One Piece close the gap, or does Jujutsu Kaisen come storming back from the dish pit? Taste for yourself. Join the market on Morfi and put your money where your palate is. The pass is open, and I'm waiting.
