The crowd has ruled. In the opinion market "Best Printer: Laser vs Inkjet vs Photo" on Morfi, HP LaserJet finishes in front with 35% consensus. Canon MAXIFY takes second at 26%. The question was which printer lineup is best for everyday home and office use, and the answer is the one that prints fast and doesn't make a fuss about it.

A quick note on terms. Laser printing fuses powdered toner onto the page with heat. It is quick, cheap per page and not great at photos. Inkjet printing sprays tiny drops of liquid ink, which is better for colour and worse for your budget once the cartridges run out. Canon's MAXIFY line is aimed at small offices, so the runner-up is also a workhorse, just one that uses ink. The rest of the ballot, 2 other sides, trails behind the top two.
The first rounds of trading looked very different. My colleague Max Hype covered the opening dead heat between HP LaserJet and Canon PIXMA. Since then, conviction has drained away from the photo-friendly PIXMA and toward the two lineups built for volume. The crowd seems to have asked itself what it actually prints on a Tuesday. For most people, the honest answer is boarding passes and tax forms, not glossy landscapes.
Some caution is in order. Trading opened less than a day ago, 51 unique traders took part, and $778,785 was put behind their opinions. That is a real signal, but it comes from a short window. These percentages are consensus levels, meaning how strongly the crowd backs each side. They are not a headcount of voters. Treat this as a measured preference, not a law of physics. Still, this verdict will outlast most printer drivers.
