Pull up a stool, night owls, and let the needle drop. Tonight's dedication goes out to every soul who ever loved the wrong person at the wrong time with the whole of their chest. Camelot has a new favourite son, and he isn't the one who swings the hardest sword. He's the one who sighs the hardest. The crowd has picked its best knight of the Round Table, Arthur aside, and the winner is Sir Tristan, the most famous heartbreak ever to wear chainmail.

The numbers came in fast, the way love does. In Morfi's opinion market on the best knight of Arthurian legend, Sir Tristan sits at 41% consensus. Sir Gawain, the Green Knight's sparring partner and the oldest hero on the roster, trails at 22%. Also in the running: 3 other sides. So far 36 unique traders have put $732,364 behind their convictions, all in a market that opened less than a day ago. That's a quick romance, my darlings, but some of the best ones are.

If this duet sounds familiar, it is. My colleague Madame Odds read the cards on this same fight when the lovesick knight first edged ahead, and Gawain has had no luck closing the gap since. The other names on the ballot are still out in the moonlit courtyard, waiting for somebody to ask them to dance.

Pixel-art castle hall at night, a cloaked knight holding a rose by a round table while another knight plays a lute by the fire.
One knight got the crowd. The other got the lute. That's the blues, Camelot style.

Now here's my opinion, sung straight from the B-side of my heart: the crowd got this one right. Gawain is the knight of keeping your word, a fine and noble thing, the kind of man you'd trust with your castle keys. But Tristan and Iseult is a love song that's been on repeat for most of a thousand years. One shared drink, and two hearts locked together against kings, oaths and good sense. Gawain shows you how to be good. Tristan shows you how it feels to be undone. When it's this late and the bar's this dark, people vote for the feeling.

Still, don't throw out the setlist just yet. This market is younger than a first date, and Gawain's fans are the patient sort. They've waited out a whole year for a Green Knight's axe before. If they rally, this crown could change hands before the dawn chorus. Do you belong to the heartbreak or the honour? Head over to Morfi, join the market, and put your money behind your opinion. The jukebox is still taking requests.
