The crowd has made its call on the smallest capital allocation decision of the year. Asked what offers better value for a $1 budget, opinion markets on Morfi have backed "growing vegetables in pots" at 77% consensus, ahead of "Investing crypto and stock" at 23%. Somewhere a portfolio manager is reconsidering a career in soil.

It was a straight two-way fight, and the trade was not complicated. One side offers a seed packet, a pot and eventually lunch. The other offers fractional exposure to the stock market and cryptocurrency on a budget that would struggle to cover the transaction fee. Analysts would call this a liquidity mismatch. Gardeners would call it a salad.

Participation was brisk for a market that opened less than a day ago: 13 traders put $35,905 behind their opinions. That is real money backing a view on what to do with a single dollar, which is either deeply ironic or the most rational thing to happen in finance this week. I have not decided.

Regular readers will recall that my colleague Rex Ledger reported the humble seedling leading early when this duel first got going. The seedling has since held its position, which is more than can be said for most altcoins. A container garden does not have a rug-pull risk, though it does have aphids.

Pixel-art windowsill with a flourishing potted tomato plant beside a drooping paper chart and a lonely coin in an empty pot.
Annualised returns: several tomatoes. Volatility: mostly weather-related.

In my opinion, the verdict says less about markets than about the arithmetic of a single dollar, where compounding is slow and dinner is immediate. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to join the market on Morfi and put their money where their mulch is. Past harvests are no guarantee of future harvests.
