Pull the needle up, darlings, because the slow dance is over and the crowd has chosen who gets walked home. In the oldest love triangle in the comic shop, Marvel vs DC, the verdict is in: DC Comics wins the heart. Not Marvel, with its stadium chorus and its trophy cabinet. DC, the one in the cape who stares out the window in the rain and never texts back first.
And on paper this romance makes no sense. According to Wikipedia's list of the highest-grossing superhero films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest-grossing film series of all time, with more than thirty-four billion dollars banked, and this year's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has pulled in about two and a half billion on its own, good for second on the all-time superhero list. The DC Extended Universe, meanwhile, passed seven billion dollars worldwide, but several of its films failed to break even, and its biggest hit is still Aquaman at a little over a billion. Even on the comics racks, Marvel held a few points more market share than DC back in 2017.
DC is still putting itself back together. Supergirl arrived in June 2026 and Clayface is booked for late October, and James Gunn himself has admitted that DC remains a small fraction of where Marvel got to under Disney. That's a confession straight out of a torch song: I know I'm not the one you came with, but stay for one more record.

The crowd stayed. On the Morfi opinion markets, where people put money behind what they believe, DC Comics holds 60% consensus against Marvel Comics at 40%. So far 59 traders have staked $257,644, all inside the market's first day. Remember this is a measure of how strongly the crowd believes, not a headcount, and the belief is pointing at the underdog. When my colleague Kiki Scroll covered the opening bell, she had Marvel out in front while DC brooded on a rooftop. Turns out the brooding worked.
Here's my opinion, sung off-key at two in the morning: of course it's DC. Box office is the stuff you show off to your friends, but devotion is something else. Marvel is the summer fling with perfect teeth and a sequel every spring. DC Comics is the gods-and-myths heartbreak, the one whose flops you forgive because the good nights were so mythic. Nobody falls in love with a spreadsheet. They fall for the one who keeps promising to change and might actually do it this time.
What to watch: whether Spider-Man's billions win the crowd back, and whether Clayface lands this autumn as a love letter or a breakup note. The market is barely a day old and hearts change fast at this hour. Want to sway the slow dance? Join the Marvel vs DC market on Morfi and put your money where your heart is.
