Gather close, seekers, and let the candle smoke settle. I laid five cards on the velvet, one each for Norway, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, and asked the oldest question of the restless soul: where in Europe should a person actually live? The orb shook, the cat hissed, and a voice from the mist answered in a calm, neutral, very expensive tone. Switzerland. Now let me show you the numbers, because the spirits only shake the table and the money shows you who is winning.

First, a warning from the tea leaves: no single index settles this question, and the oracles of statistics disagree with each other all the time. On the UN-based figures collected in the Human Development Index tables, Iceland, which is not even on our ballot, leads Europe, while Switzerland and Norway sit tied just behind it, with Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands close after. The Social Progress Index puts Switzerland first, the Netherlands third, Norway fourth, Denmark seventh and Germany ninth. Then, as Euronews reports, the World Happiness Report 2026 hands the happiness crown to Finland, another country missing from our séance, with Denmark third and Germany outside the top ten. And Norway's cruellest card: in the InterNations Expat Insider 2026 survey, Norway finished dead last among the countries evaluated, with Germany second to last.

So what does the crowd say? On Morfi's opinion markets, where people back their predictions with real money, Switzerland is ahead at 37% consensus and Norway follows at 19%. Also on the ballot are 3 other sides. In under a day, 17 unique traders have put $57,464 behind their opinions. That ranking lines up neatly with the scholarly runes: Switzerland tops the Social Progress Index and, per Euronews, also took first place in Remitly's 2026 ranking of the best countries to move to. The crowd, it seems, has been reading the same tea leaves I have.

Now the Madame's own vision, and remember this is prophecy and opinion, not fact. I see a land where even the trains run on time out of politeness, where the cheese has holes so your worries can drain through, and where neutrality is less a policy than a personality. Of course the crowd crowned it. But I also see Norway holding second place despite that expat survey, and I find that oddly romantic. Spreadsheets may call it lonely, dark and dear, yet the crowd still dreams of fjords, northern lights and the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund humming quietly in the background like a guardian spirit. Dreaming has never needed a survey.

The orb shows the Alps; the fjord card sulks face-down beside it.

What should you watch for? The market is barely a day old, and early omens have a habit of fading by dawn. Watch whether the Netherlands and Denmark, which both rank high on happiness and social progress, start creeping up the standings, and whether Germany can shake off its poor expat showing. The orb has spoken for now, but the crowd can still change the prophecy. Pick your country, stake your conviction and join the market on Morfi before the mist clears.
