Draw near, seekers, and mind the shin guards. Last night my crystal ball shook on its velvet cushion, and inside the mist I saw a hall full of fighters bowing to every corner of the earth. Each discipline swore it was the one the whole world practises, the one in every strip-mall dojo from Bangkok to Buffalo. The spirits wanted a verdict on the most globally popular martial art. The crowd has delivered one, and it lands like an elbow to the temple.

The winner is Muay Thai, the art of eight limbs, sitting on top of the opinion market on Morfi at 30% consensus. Breathing down its neck is Taekwondo at 22%, the Olympic sport of high kicks and the sport behind a million coloured belts. Also on the ballot, and sent to the bench for now: 3 other sides. The market asked traders to weigh worldwide participation, media presence and how easy it is to find a school in each region, so this is a fight over who is everywhere, not over who would win in a cage.

Before you carve the result into a temple wall, look closely at the tea leaves. Trading opened less than a day ago. 46 traders have put $1,209,419 behind their opinions so far. These percentages measure how strongly the crowd believes in each side, not a headcount of fighters, and a lead built over one night can vanish by morning. Muay Thai holds the belt today, but Taekwondo is close enough to throw a spinning hook kick at it.

The orb sees eight limbs winning and one very high kick refusing to give up.

Now, my own prophecy, and treat it as opinion, darlings, not a decree from the heavens. I think the crowd is half right. Muay Thai has the glamour: the fight-camp pilgrimages, the highlight reels, the mystique of the ring. But turn over the next tarot card and you'll find Taekwondo quietly running the suburbs, with a dojang next to every pizza place and a small child in a white uniform in every family photo album. Romance votes for Muay Thai. The school directory might vote for Taekwondo. My cards say this one isn't finished.

What to watch: whether Taekwondo's backers wake up and close the gap, and whether any of the sides on the bench stage a late comeback before the incense burns out. The board is young and the spirits are restless. Step into the circle, put your conviction where your kick is, and join the market on Morfi. Madame's ball is cloudy, and yours might see further.
