Draw the curtains and dim the lamps, darlings, because the orb has gone cloudy with a little hard court and some very fast feet. The tarot deck came up in pairs tonight: the Emperor turned upright for Argentina, and the Tower turned over for anyone who thought this would be a quiet coronation for Brazil. The crowd has spoken on who rules men's futsal right now, and it has picked the team that the official table does not.

First, the mortal records. The FIFA men's futsal ranking, first launched in 2024, runs on an Elo-style system that adds or subtracts points for each game. In its latest update FIFA reports that Brazil held first place, with Portugal second and Spain third. The official table puts Brazil more than a hundred points clear, with Portugal and Spain separated by barely a whisker, and Argentina and Iran close behind in fourth and fifth. So the five teams on this ballot are exactly the world's top five.

The stars have been busy in 2026, too. Spain beat Portugal by two goals in the final of UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, and over in Asia, Iran kept the AFC Futsal Asian Cup by beating hosts Indonesia on penalties after a ten-goal thriller, a record fourteenth title according to its Wikipedia page. With all that going on, you would expect the crowd to crown a champion of the summer. They didn't.

Here is what the cards say on Morfi's opinion markets. Argentina leads with 30% consensus, Brazil sits in second at 19%, and the rest of the ballot (3 other sides) trails behind. So far 58 traders have put $284,913 behind their convictions. Those are consensus levels, mind you, not head counts: they measure how strongly the crowd backs each side, and right now that backing leans towards Buenos Aires instead of the official number one.

Now for the prophecy, and this part is pure opinion, straight from my velvet chair. I think the crowd is voting with its heart and not its calculator. Elo points pile up over years, like wax on a séance candle, but the market asks about style, talent and form, and Argentina has the sort of swagger that makes a crystal ball fog up all by itself. Is it fair to Spain, who actually lifted a trophy this year? Absolutely not. Is it fair to Brazil, sitting on a points cushion big enough to sleep on? Even less. But no oracle ever promised you fair, only interesting. Just last week my colleague Chef Basil Brawl found Brazil and Portugal dead level in his futsal cook-off, and now the whole kitchen has been turned upside down.

The orb sees stripes, and the canary is lost in the fog.

One warning before the incense burns out: this market opened less than a day ago, and a young prophecy is easy to knock over. FIFA's next ranking update is due in December, and if Brazil's points lead holds while the crowd keeps crowning Argentina, we will have a lovely fight between the ledger and the gut. Watch for Spain's Euro winners to come back into the reckoning too. Want to change the omen? Join the market on Morfi and put your own coins in the cup.
