Contestants, to your stations. Tonight's mystery box holds one wedge of cheese, one frying pan and two cats who have spent eighty years losing to mice. On one bench, Tom and Jerry, the Michelin-starred legends. On the other, Herman and Katnip, the hungry underdogs who swear their recipe was never copied. The crowd is already sharpening its knives, and I... (long, theatrical pause) ...can smell burning fur.

Let us read the menus. According to Wikipedia, Tom and Jerry was cooked up in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and grew into a franchise of more than a hundred and sixty theatrical shorts, most of them for MGM, picking up more Academy Awards than any other character-based theatrical animated series. Britannica adds that the 2021 live-action hybrid film turned into a surprise box office hit, taking in more than a hundred million dollars worldwide. Across the kitchen, Famous Studios served up Herman and Katnip in thirty-three shorts, and Wikipedia notes the pair is often regarded as a clone of MGM's duo, with violence said to go beyond Tom and Jerry and even the Looney Tunes. One brand of spice, then: extra hot.

So how is the tasting panel scoring it? On Morfi's opinion markets, where people put real money behind what they think, Tom and Jerry open service at 74% consensus with 12 holders, while Herman and Katnip sit at 26% with 5 holders. That's 15 traders and $24,720 on the pass in less than a day. Nobody should be surprised: the trophy cabinet and the box office numbers above all point the same way. Worth noting, though, that the sources say nothing about how big either fan base is today, so the crowd's conviction is doing the job the data can't.

Now my verdict, and it is only my opinion, served hot. Tom and Jerry is a soufflé: perfect timing, classical technique, it rises every single time and somehow never gets old. Herman and Katnip is the street-food truck parked outside the restaurant, louder and messier, slapping on more chili than anyone asked for. I respect the hustle. But copying the signature dish and then doubling the spice doesn't make it your recipe, my darlings, it makes it a cover version with heartburn. Tom and Jerry, you may keep your apron. Herman, wipe your station and come back with something of your own.

One station gets the trophy, the other gets a crumb and a smoking pan.

Keep an eye on the pass. The market has only just opened, and underdogs have pulled off comebacks before when a wave of nostalgic Famous Studios fans turns up out of nowhere. Will Herman and Katnip's numbers climb, or will the legends glaze this one shut by dessert? Grab your spatula, join the market on Morfi and put your money where your palate is. Service is open.
