The results are in, and they came out of the oven warm: the crowd has named Samsung the best Android phone maker. Think of it as a lab test where every brand went into the same beaker, with software polish, hardware quality, updates and design as the reagents, and one name settled out at the bottom as the clear precipitate. Trading opened less than a day ago, so call this the first reading rather than the final peer review. Still, the first reading has a winner.
Some background on why this contest is so fierce. Android isn't made by one company. It runs on phones from a whole ecosystem of makers, and lately the sharpest weapon in that fight has been update support. According to Wikipedia, the Galaxy S24 line was Samsung's first to carry seven years of OS and security updates, matching a promise Google had already made with its Pixel phones. Samsung then made the same seven-year pledge for the S25 series, with support expected to run until around 2032. Compare that with the old baseline: Google's Android One program asks only for two years of OS updates and three of security patches.
Then there's sheer size. Wikipedia's sales tallies show Samsung shipped roughly a quarter of a billion phones in 2025, well ahead of Xiaomi, which shipped a bit over one hundred and sixty million. Size and reputation are different things, but they tend to feed each other.
That brings us to the crowd. On Morfi's opinion market, where people put money behind their views, Samsung leads at 30% consensus and Xiaomi follows at 20%. Also on the ballot: 3 other sides. So far 35 traders have staked $86,767. The ranking follows the shipment charts closely, so for now the crowd is backing the two biggest names in the sales data.

My hypothesis, and it is only an opinion: Samsung is winning on stamina, not sparkle. A seven-year update promise works like a slow-release vitamin. It doesn't wow anyone on launch day, but your phone keeps getting healthier long after the excitement fades. Fun fact for the nerds: update support is one of the few phone specs you can't measure on the day you buy it. You find out over the years. The crowd seems to be crediting Samsung with a promise most of them can't check yet. Xiaomi, meanwhile, is the bold grad student with great data and a smaller lab, and I wouldn't bet against it forever.
What to watch next: this market is barely a day old, and early results tend to drift as more people weigh in. If Xiaomi fans show up, or someone makes a strong case for one of the other contenders, the numbers could change. If you think the crowd got it wrong, you can join the market on Morfi and put your own money behind your answer.
